Prepare your hankies for some Happy Tears. Dick Vermeil is always good for some Happy Football Tears. Tommy Lasorda is always good for some Happy Baseball Tears. The last time Dirk Nowitzki won an award? Happy MVP Tears. Everson Walls and Ron Springs? Happy Life-Saving Tears from coast-to-coast.

What happens if all those human fountains of Happy Tears assemble together, in one tuxedo’ed-up ballroom?

Irving tries to stop slide vs. Fossil Ridge juggernaut Print E-mail
by Dave McNabb    Tue, Sep 4, 2007, 09:19 PM

Irving vs. Keller Fossil Ridge, 7 p.m. Thursday Keller Athletic Complex

GameDay Information: A pre-game show hosted by Friday Night Gladiators, which broadcasts a live scoreboard show on Friday nights from 10 pm. to midnight on ESPN-FM (103.3) For more information, go to http://www.fridaynightgladiators.com

Scouting Fossil Ridge: Panthers’ first-year head coach Tony Baccarini, the team's offensive coordinator last season,  replaces Hal Wasson (Southlake Carroll). The Panthers hope to repeat or surpass last year’s 10-2 success with many key players returning. Quarterback John Killion (2,273 yards and 31 TDs passing), running back James Russell (235 carries, 1,691 yards and 14 TDs) and Oklahoma commit defensive end R.J. Washington (seven sacks, 21 QB pressures) are exceptional leaders. The defense is led by linebacker Peyton Gonzales and Brandon Mahoney.

Scouting Irving: The Tigers hope aim to rejuvenate from last year’s winless season. They’ve got a talented quarterback in TCU commit Yogi Gallegos and some good genes in Winford Tennell, whose brother Adron signed with Oklahoma last year. There’s some impact talent in the line with 6-5 senior Matt Unger and running back Chuckie Jones. Hard to believe, but a once-dominant program with a respected coaching staff has lost 17 in a row after last week’s 31-13 loss to Arlington Lamar. In 2006, Fossil Ridge beat Irving, 42-7.

Random thought: Moore & Morgan tied by Bonham Print E-mail
by Dave McNabb    Mon, Sep 3, 2007, 11:40 AM

What do Hall  of Fame baseball player Joe Morgan and the country's newest celebrity football coach, Jerry Moore of Appalachian State, have in common?

Both are members of the Bonham Hall of Fame.

Morgan, announcing ESPN baseball games Sunday nights, was a star of the Big Red Machine with Pete Rose and Johnny Bench.

Moore, a former Baylor football star from the tiny Northeast Texas town, former North Texas and Texas Tech coach has been at Appalchian State since 1989. Moore, of course, is riding AP State's huge win at Michigan on Saturday.
