“You’ve heard the saying, ‘Don’t listen to what they say, watch what they do,’ and that’s exactly why Grant Thornton is chosen as the recipient of the Alliance Data Corporate Champion Award,” said Cathy Packard, executive director, Special Care & Career Services (SCCS).
For the past 45 years, it has been Special Care & Career Services’
mission to provide services to children and adults with developmental disabilities so they can lead fulfilling lives in their communities and businesses play a crucial role in that mission.
“One of the first corporations to come on board in support of our agency and its annual fundraiser, A Special Evening, was Alliance Data.
It is in their honor the Alliance Data Corporate Champion (ADCC) Award was created, to recognize their years of outstanding multi-dimensional support - for their generous financial support as well as their long-time commitment to SCCS through volunteer hours and employment of our Supported Employment clients.”
It is in this spirit that Special Care & Career Services has named Grant Thornton LLP as the first-ever recipient of the Alliance Data Corporate Champion Award, in honor of their employment of SCCS client, Elizabeth Harber as well as for its generous multi-faceted support of the agency through financial contributions, volunteerism and advocacy.

Recently, Grant Thornton added yet another level to its support of SCCS.  Valuing the importance of Elizabeth to the company and the importance of SCCS’ continuing support visits to ensure that she remains stable in her job, Grant Thornton  made the decision to pay the fees for Elizabeth’s  ongoing support.  This support includes regular visits by SCCS staff and volunteer Raquel Foster.  SCCS attributes the high job retention rate their clients enjoy to these regular visits.  As proof, 56% of SCCS clients have been on the job more than five years.

”We hired Elizabeth because it was the right thing to do.  Special Care worked closely with us to understand Grant Thornton’s hiring need and then matched Elizabeth’s unique skills, interests, and preferences with that need.  It was a perfect fit on both sides and today Elizabeth is a very special member of the Dallas office Grant Thornton family.  At the time of her hire, we could not have anticipated how exciting it would be for all of us to watch Elizabeth blossom in her role the extraordinary impact she would have on staff morale, and the positive recognition we have received in the community,” said Lou Grabowsky, Central Regional Managing Partner of Grant Thornton.   “The small monthly investment we make in her continuing support is well worth it.  And, our positive experience with Elizabeth has paved the way for our firm to hire individuals with special needs in several other offices.”
