Mark your calendars for March 9th and purchase your sponsorship and tickets now! This is always a fun event and marks the 8th anniversary for the concert series, "A Special Evening" benefiting Special Care & Career Services (SCCS). Alliance Data continues to step forward by hosting the evening - which is a huge help and vote of confidence in a most worthy non profit organization. Alliance Data employees also volunteer throughout the year for SCCS and the company employs SCCS clients. That's worth mentioning, because it is truly a long-time corporate effort which continues to grow and should be applauded.

Also deserving kudos are honorary chairs, Marinelle and Kip Sowden, who have come on board the past couple of years donating time, resources, kick off parties with fabulous food at Trader Vic's, Hotel Palomar's Residences and more. This couple joins forces with past honorary chairs such as Sara and Glen Agritelley, Anne and Steve Stodghill and supporters like Leigh Anne Haugh, Kristen Johnston, Chad Cook, Nicole Kapioltas, Sharon Herrin and Roy Atwood. Scroll down for the past history.

Taking the helm as co-chairs this year are Diana Hamilton and Lauren Maggard. At the kick off, Cathy Packard, Executive Director, SCCS, began by naming the awards recipients, announcing first, Ruth Altshuler as the Milton P. Levy, Jr. Award Recipient. This award is given annually to an individual who has exhibited leadership in building independence for children and adults with disabilities, in the community.  Past recipients include Todd Wagner, Robert G. Pollock, Nancy Ann Hunt, Robert L. Blumenthal, Jim Hanophy, MS, CRC and former Presidents of the Board of Trustees of this evening’s beneficiary, Special Care & Career Services (SCCS).

She then announced Grant Thornton as the recipient of the Alliance Data Corporate Champion Award, in recognition of excellence as an employer of SCCS client, Elizabeth Harber, for creative funding to support Special Care & Career Services and staff volunteerism.

The evening: Sponsors at certain levels are treated to a pre-concert gourmet dinner buffet, wine and cocktails in the Meyerson lobby. Sponsors at the highest levels are invited into a private reception and their photo is taken with the featured entertainer, this year, Ms. Raitt.

This evening will be talked about for years to come, as Special Care & Career Services presents A Special Evening with Bonnie Raitt, hosted by Alliance Data, the eighth annual fundraising event at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.

In addition to raising community awareness about the agency, the event will raise proceeds to assist Special Care & Career Services in continuing its 46‑year mission to provide services to children and adults with developmental disabilities so they can reach their maximum potential and lead fulfilling lives in our community.

Sponsorships are available, beginning at $500. Tickets start at $75 and are open to the public. They can be purchased at www.specialcarecareer.org or by calling 1.800.595.4TIX (4849).

Bonnie Raitt is a singer, songwriter and guitarist whose unique style blends blues, R&B, rock and pop. After 20 years as a cult favorite, she broke through to the top in the early ‘90s with her Grammy award winning albums, Nick of Time and Luck of the Draw, which featured hits such as, "Something To Talk About" and "I Can't Make You Love Me."

With nine Grammys under her belt and a long history of social activism, she tours regularly incorporating many benefit concerts into her schedule. In fact, Raitt has been on tour for the better part of the last three years, in support of her latest studio album, Souls Alike, which debuted at #19 on the Billboard 200 in September 2005 and has earned widespread critical acclaim and the Bonnie Raitt and Friends live CD/DVD released in August 2006.
