Sierra Leone Vice President May Have Ebola Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Sun, Mar 1, 2015, 11:08 pm

$ Aaabasumana.jpgSierra Leone Vice President Samuel Sam-Sumara appears to have been stricken by the deadly and contagious Ebola virus.

The BBC News reports that, "The vice-president of Sierra Leone has put himself into quarantine after one of his bodyguards died from Ebola.  Samuel Sam-Sumana said he would stay out of contact with others for 21 days as a precaution."

If infected, the Sierra Leone vice president could infect the entire national government. Additionally, government officials travel extensively, which could spark a global pandemic.

According to the BBC News, "There was optimism the virus was on the decline in Sierra Leone at the end of last year but there has been a recent increase in confirmed cases.  Nearly 10,000 people have died in the outbreak, the vast majority in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone."

More than 23,500 cases of Ebola have already been reported in Sierra Leone.
