Mongolia Parliament Impeaches the Prime Minister Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Wed, Nov 5, 2014, 10:59 pm

$ 1Altan.jpgThe Mongolian Parliament impeaches Prime Minister Norov Altankhuyag over corruption and incompetence allegations.

According to the BBC News, "Mongolia's Prime Minister Norov Altankhuyag has been removed after MPs, including some from his party, voted to dismiss him. He had been accused of economic mismanagement, corruption and nepotism."

Economic growth rates in Mongolia have slowed down dramatically.

"One of Mr Altankhuyag's close aides is now being investigated for embezzlement of coal subsidies. Mineral-rich Mongolia had seen rapid economic growth in recent years but this has slowed sharply, as has foreign investment, while inflation has risen."

Deputy Prime Minister Dendev Terbishdagva will serve as the prime minister.
