Solar Subsidies Increase Income Inequality Gap Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Sat, Nov 1, 2014, 10:21 pm

$ 1Ahaganvoter.jpgAfrican-American state lawmakers are expressing grave concerns that President Barry Obama's solar panel subsidies for American homeowners appear likely to raise the income inequality gap.

According to the Daily Caller, "African-American state lawmakers are worried that policies encouraging the use of rooftop solar panels may be widening inequality between rich and poor communities, hitting minorities especially hard."

A press release from the National Black Caucus of State Legislators is quoted as saying that, “We are concerned about the regressive nature of the cost-shifting that results from the net metering policies used to make [distributed generation (DG)] appear to be a more attractive financial proposition.”

As reported by the Daily Caller, "The National Black Caucus of State Legislators embraces green energy sources, like solar power, but worries that current subsidies for rooftop solar panels hurt blacks and other poor communities because they are essentially a wealth transfer from poor to rich."

Apparently, only the wealthy can enjoy the solar panel subsidy, while poor people must pay higher energy prices.
