by Tom McGregor    Wed, Oct 15, 2014, 10:11 PM

CNN's TV ratings continue to plummet and the news media outlet is slashing its budget by cancelling shows and laying off hundreds of its employees.

The Houston Chronicle reports that, 'CNN's "Crossfire" and Jane Velez-Mitchell's nightly show on HLN are both being canceled as a result of budget cuts at CNN Worldwide."

CNN is planning to fire over 300 workers.

According to the Houston Chronicle, "Velez-Mitchell's program, which aired for six years at 7 p.m. Eastern on the CNN sister network, ended Monday. Mitchell was told of the layoff on Tuesday, and she was one of 12 people with the show let go with the cut, said executives Wednesday at CNN who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss personnel matters. The show is being replaced temporarily by "Forensic Files."

Meanwhile, The Association of Black Journalists has filed a lawsuit against CNN over alleged racial terminations.
