Did USMC Commandant Amos Bail Out on Basic Training? Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Sun, Oct 12, 2014, 08:59 PM

U.S. Marines Commandant Gen. Jim Amos allegedly tampered with his resume by claiming he enlisted into the Marines and succesfully completed Basic training. Nevertheless, new evidence has emerged that Gen Amos never participated in such training and simply took a mail-in correspondence course instead.

USA Today reports that, "Gen. Jim Amos' critics are not letting him quietly retire as commandant of the Marine Corps, raising fresh allegations of wrongdoing even as he prepares to end his tenure on Oct. 17."

U.S. Rep. Walter Jones (R.-N.C.), is quoted as saying that, "You just should not achieve a position based on falsehood. When you are going before a (congressional) committee seeking the nomination for the highest position in the United States Marine Corps, you know that he read the information many times before he would sign it."

According to USA Today, 'At issue is whether Amos attended basic Marine officer training in 1972 as he said in the career service record he provided Congress four years ago during his confirmation as the service's 35th commandant."

Gen. Amos is scheduled to retire on a full military pension on October 17.
