Obama Upgrades ISIS from 'JV' to Varsity Terrorist League Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Mon, Sep 29, 2014, 01:13 AM

President Barry Obama had earlier mocked the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) as nothing more than "JV" terrorists. Yet now, he disclosed in an exclusive TV interview on CBS "60 Minutes," that he had apparently underestimated ISIS.

The BBC News reports that, "President Barack Obama has acknowledged that US agencies underestimated the threat posed by the Islamist insurgency in Syria. In a frank TV interview, he said that al-Qaeda had been beaten in Iraq by US forces working with Sunni tribes."

Obama is quoted as saying that, "During the chaos of the Syrian civil war, where essentially you have huge swathes of the country completely ungoverned, they were able to reconstitute themselves and take advantage of that chaos and attract foreign fighters... who believed in their jihadist nonsense."

"But," according to the BBC, "they took advantage of the power vacuum in neighbouring Syria to emerge as Isis, later called Islamic State. Meanwhile, there has been fierce fighting to the west of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad."

Rumours are swirling that Sen. John McCain (R.-Az.) may have met and took a photo with Jihadist John the Beheader of the ISIS, when he visited Syria last year to pledge his support for Syrian rebels.
