BEIJING: When Professor Paul Gillis is not occupied with teaching Maoist accounting principles at the Peking University Guanghua School of Management, he can be found in Hong Kong igniting pro-democracy protests that demand British sovereignty return to the city.
CNN reports that, "Activists in Hong Kong are gearing up to challenge Beijing over political freedom in Asia's premier financial center with a series of protests starting Tuesday."
Prof. Gillis called those who oppose Occupy Central in Hong Kong as "arrogant." Additionally, his official Website, the China Accounting Blog, argues in favor of British regulators supervising Hong Kong's accounting and auditing sectors.
According to CNN, "Paul Gillis, a professor at Peking University's Guanghua School of Management, wrote on his blog that the "arrogance of the firms is stunning" and the decision would diminish their brand value."
Full-time and tenured professors at Chinese State-run universities are required to swear allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party in order to gain employment there.
