Bronx Democrat Seeks Ted Cruz Leadership on Immigration Reform Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Mon, Sep 1, 2014, 09:33 PM

In a press release sent to the Dallas Blog, U.S. Rep. Jose E. Serrano (D-NY) from the Bronx is calling for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) to play a leading role on immigration reform. In an odd twist, the Democrat Congressman failed to mention that Obama should be a "leader" on this issue.

The Serrano press release reports that, "The Bronx, NY —Today, Congressman José E. Serrano (D-NY) released the following statement in response to Senator Ted Cruz’s remarks on the Bronx this past Saturday at the Americans For Prosperity's Defending The American Dream Summit in Dallas, Texas."

Serrano, who is the longest serving Latino serving in the U.S. Congress, representing the Bronx since 1990, is calling for Cruz to lead "his Republican colleagues to work on passing Immigration Reform.

Serrano is quoted as saying that, “Senator Ted Cruz’s pandering at the expense of the good people of the Bronx, continues to show just how much the darling of the Tea Party is out of touch with real life in our country. Instead of getting his republican colleagues to work on passing Immigration Reform, he attacks hard working people in the Bronx as part of his pathetic approach to deal with the immigration issue. Your comments about Manhattan’s concern about their security in relationship to the Bronx, Senator Cruz, is a cheap shot meant to divert attention away from your failed leadership on this issue. Manhattan has nothing to fear from the Bronx, but our country should fear your extreme and divisive philosophy.”

Is Serrano throwing Obama under the bus for failing to request Obama's leadership on legislative issues?
