The St. Louis Transit Union has threatened to launch a strike because the Metro negotiator brought in Oreo cookies to the bargaining table. Union activists contend that Oreos have so-called "race-bating" connotations.
According to the Daily Caller, "A transportation union called a metro negotiator racist Wednesday after he shared the recipe for Oreo cookies during a closed door meeting, the St. Louis Business Journal ."
Union negotiators are upset that most Metro drivers are African-American while the mechanics are white. Hence, the presence of Oreos at Union meeting would imply that Unions are racial segregationists.
As reported by the Daily Caller, "The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) has called the incident, which happened back in July, “race baiting at the bargaining table” because the majority of mechanics are white and the majority of drivers are black."
St. Louis transit union workers earn approximately $325,000 in annual salary on average.
