BEIJING: A rising tide of mysterious suicides and arrests appear to be haunting the Chinese media. Yet another CCTV financial news anchor has vanished from the airwaves, her name is Ouyang Zhiwei, and she may have been taken into custody amidst a corruption probe of State-owned media outlets based in Beijing.
China Radio International reports that, "Ouyang Zhiwei, a female financial news anchor for China Central Television (CCTV), has reportedly not appeared at work for more than a month, The Beijing News reported on Wednesday. The 'disappearance' of the anchor coincides with a recent investigation launched into CCTV's financial news service."
Allegations are swirling that the global behemoth public relations' agency, Edelman, is under investigation for illegally influencing reporting on CCTV News in Beijing.
According to CRI, "CCTV's finance channel director Guo Zhenxi and senior producer Tian Liwu were detained for suspicion of bribery in June. Speculation has circulated around other CCTV financial news staff not showing up to work. Renowned business anchor Rui Chengang has not appeared on air since July 11."
Ouyang Zhiwei looks like she was hired more for her beauty and connections rather than for her brains.
