Eco-Militants have declared labor unions persona non grata in today's Progressive World. They blast unions for their support of fracking for shale gas in the United States of America.
The Houston Chronicle reports that, "After early complaints that out-of-state firms got the most jobs, some local construction trade workers and union members in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia say they're now benefiting in a big way from the Marcellus and Utica Shale oil and gas boom."
Dennis Martire, mid-Atlantic regional manager for the Laborer's international union, Liuna, is quoted as saying that, "The shale became a lifesaver and a lifeline for a lot of working families."
According to the Houston Chronicle, "That vocal support from blue-collar workers complicates efforts by environmentalists to limit the drilling process known as fracking."
Shale gas drilling has created over 280,000 jobs in the US alone.
