BEIJING: Amidst the Obama Depression in 2010, Winston-Salem man, Dano Smith needed a job and accepted an ESL (English as a Second Language) teaching position in China. He came here with little money and just hoping to earn enought to pay the bills. Yet four years later, he had earned some fame as an actor and he's turning into a big-time movie producer.
He is in the works to produce a 1940s film noir set in Japanese Occupied Hong Kong/Macao, and superstar actress Bai Ling has already agreed to play a starring role as a sexy evil crime boss.
In an exclusive interview with the Dallas Blog, Dano Smith is quoted as saying that, "When I first came to China, I was just planning to be a regular ESL teacher. But I got asked to do some acting and I made friends with the Chinese film community here and they got excited when I told them about my movie idea."
Dano Smith credits his positive relationship with Bai Ling to boost his credentials in the film industry. He also mentioned that Hollywood fashion designer Sue Wong has offered much support to him as well.
Additionally, Texas Pete, a hot sauce company, has expressed serious interest in production of the film. They are hoping to pour in on an amazing China Dream tale.
