President Barack Obama is claiming that Ukrainian protestors, who have engaged in riots on the streets of Kiev, are actually "peaceful protestors." Obama has also failed to mention that many leaders of the Ukrainian mob are members of a neo-Nazi organization, even though many of them have vandalized buildings with symbols that support Hitler.
According to the Houston Chronicle, ""We expect the Ukrainian government to show restraint and to not resort to violence when dealing with peaceful protesters," Obama said. We hold the Ukrainian government primarily responsible for making sure that it is dealing with peaceful protesters in an appropriate way, that the Ukrainian people are able to assemble and speak freely about their interests without fear of repression."
Obama is threatening sanctions, such as freezing the financial assets of Ukrainian government officials.
As reported by the Houston Chronicle, "A senior State Department official, who is closely following the unrest in Ukraine, said Wednesday that U.S. officials were concerned about the Ukrainian president's decision to replace the army chief. The military has announced that it would take part in a national anti-terrorist operation to restore order. U.S. officials have been able to stay in direct contact senior security force leaders in the Ukrainian government, but in the past 24 hours that has been difficult because they are not answering their phones, the official said."
The US State Department also revealed that the White House tried to call Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych, but he did not answer their call.
