Russian President Vladimr Putin has a bold vision to establish a Moscow-led Eurasian Union to rival global supremacy over the European Union. This would explain why Moscow and and Washington are battling to rule over the Ukrainian government.
According to the Moscow Times, "Russia expects Ukraine to return to a process of integration with a Moscow-driven economics union stretching from Europe to the Pacific Ocean, a senior Kremlin official said Thursday. "We are counting on Ukraine's return to the integration process," presidential advisor Sergei Glazyev told an economic conference in Moscow."
The White House and US State Department have already announced their refusal to officially recognize the Eurasian Union.
As reported by the Moscow Times, "The Eurasian Union, to which Glazyev was referring, is an association of former Soviet countries that is due to be launched in 2015. Street protests in Ukraine were sparked last year by the President 's decision to reject closer economic ties with the European Union and increase trade links with Russia instead."
Hillary Clinton pledged to oppose the Eurasian Union if she's elected President of the United States in 2016.
