Pope Francis Intends to Visit South Korea Soon Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Tue, Jan 7, 2014, 11:05 PM

Pope Francis and Vatican officials are busy making preparations for a papal visit to South Korea this year.

The Joong Ang Daily reports that, "Pope Francis will visit Korea this year, according to sources with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea (CBCK), 25 years after the country’s last visit by a pontiff."

The papal visit will occur either in August or September.

According to the Joong Ang Daily, "Although neither the Vatican nor CBCK has made it official, the pope, who succeeded Pope Benedict XVI last March, will probably take part in the sixth Asian Youth Day, a gathering of younger Roman Catholics from around Asia that is scheduled for Aug. 13 to 17 in Daejeon."

Pope Francis would be expected to take a number of trips to Asia in the near future.
