Thomas Rippe, a former co-host of CRI’s radio show, China Now, exposes details of how the Chinese media is failing. I was a former colleague of Mr. Rippe and can vouch for his explanations. However, I never participated in the specific meetings he had been referring to, nor did I ever engage in a snitching campaign against my colleagues, even though many foreigners, working in the Chinese media, participated in such malicious gossip practices in a frequent manner. BEIJING: It was bound to happen sooner or later. Former employees of China’s state-owned media would start talking and expose major flaws of the system. Nowadays, Beijing officials want to spend billions of US dollars on a Chinese media global campaign, but will the strategy work? Perhaps not.
