Sen. Cruz is quoted by the Houston Chronicle as saying that, "I think Democrats and the media are afraid of Marco Rubio because he is smart, intelligent, conservative Hispanic. And they are looking for any excuse they can attack him, because that threatens them." The freshman senator gave the comments to a group of journalists while visiting LaRue Tactical, a gun manufacturing factory located outside of Austin. Cruz and Rubio can both lay claims to Cuban heritage. According to the Houston Chronicle, "Cruz said Democrats feel threatened by the Florida senator as a 'promising Republican' with a Hispanic background, the Dallas Morning News reported." Cruz said, "I think they believe it is in their interest to inflict as much damage as possible to blow things wildly out of proportion." Cruz was referring to the moment when Sen Cruz sipped water when giving a speech. Many Democrats feel threatened by the fact that Sen. Marco Rubio is proud of his Latino heritage, but he's also a Republican. Sen. Ted Cruz (R.-Tx.) believes that would explain the recent attacks launched against Sen Rubio by the mainstream media and leaders of the Democrat Party.
