In late 2012, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst raised $3.33 million, however his campaign just reports holding $1.97 million cash-on-hand.
The Houston Chronicle reports that, "Dewhurst ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate last year, defeated by Ted Cruz in the Republican primary to replace retiring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison."
Accordingly, he claims that he will only campaign for re-election as lieutenant governor next year.
According to the Houston Chronicle, "his campaign said late Tuesday it took $3.33 from around July 1 through Dec. 8. It didn’t say why he has less cash-on-hand, but Dewhurst may have spent it ahead of the July 31 runoff against Cruz, or serving debt."
Dewhurst made allegations that his campaign manager, Kenneth Barfield, had stolen over $760,000.
