The Canadian government has launched a nationwide crackdown on a Chuck-E-Cheese gang of smugglers, who are illegally selling Made in America cheese to Canucks. Royal Mounties contend that it’s illegal to sell better quality cheese at lower prices in Canada.
The BBC News reports that, “a Canadian police officer was among three people charged as the country’s authorities announced they had busted a major cheese-smuggling ring.”
Even President Barack Obama declared war on those who smuggle American-made cheese to Canada. He deployed U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to help with a joint US-Canadian investigation that confiscated $200,000 of cheese and other products, which were illicitly purchased over the border in southern Ontario.
According to the BBC, “the smugglers sold large quantities of cheese which is cheaper in the US, to restaurants, it is alleged. The two other men charged were civilians, one a former police officer.”
On Thursday, the Niagara Regional Police (NRP) announced the charges in a press release.
