Scientists Seek EPA Regulations on Hamburgers Print E-mail

Activism Burger.jpgA group of Californian scientists contend that cooking hamburgers are eco-health hazards and emit more carbon emissions than long-haul trucks.

The Houston Chronicle reports that, “charbroiling one hamburger contributes more to air pollution than a heavy-duty truck, according to a study released by the University of California Riverside.”

The study contends that a diesel-powered 18-wheeler would have to travel 143 miles to emit the same pollution as one burger cooked on a commercial charbroiler, a study disclosed.

According to the Houston Chronicle, “the study earned praise from the diesel industry trade group, the Diesel Technology Forum, which used it to illustrate just how clean diesel engines can be.”

Allen Schaeffer, executive director of the group, said, there is no significant difference in emissions between engines burning diesel and those burning natural gas.”
