BEIJING: Last year, Xiang Weiyi, nicknamed Yiyi, survived a deadly train crash in Wenzhou, where she lost both her parents. Yet, she faces an even greater tragedy as Shanghai kindergarten schools are refusing to accept her as a student.
According to the South China Morning Post, “Xiang Yuyu, her father’s younger brother, said the family had tried to find a kindergarten to accept Yiyi, who is now three-and-a-half years old, but they all said they (are) concerned about her leg.” However, her uncle said, “but Yiyi’s condition won’t affect her studies or ability to fit into a kindergarten.” As reported by the South China Morning Post, “on a microblog called, ‘Little Weiyi,’ he wrote that Yiyi has six small school bags and that every time she calls out: ‘Look uncle, here is a kindergarten.” She feels very sad when she watches other children playing at kindergartens knowing that she can’t join them.
