President Barack Obama ordered the shut down of six U.S. Border Patrol stations in Texas to transform the cities of Dallas, Abilene, San Angelo, San Antonio, Lubbock and Amarillo into ‘sanctuary cities’ for illegal immigrants.
The Houston Chronicle reports that, “the stations closing in Texas are in Abilene, San Angelo, Dallas, San Antonio, Lubbock and Amarillo. The others are in Riverside, Calif., Billings Montana, and Twin Falls, Idaho.” Bill Brooks, spokesman of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, contends that the stations are hundreds of miles away from the border. The agency intends to transfer the 41 agents closer to the border. According to the Houston Chronicle, “but the Federation of American Immigration Reform said the interior stations are needed ‘ a second line of defense’ to track down and apprehend illegal immigrants who make it past international borders and into heavily traveled corridors in the United States.” Amarillo law enforcement officers, speaking to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, expressed concerns since they lack the authority to police human trafficking and illegal immigration.
