Billionaire Russian investor Mikhail Prokhorov claims that he would distance himself from the protest movement in Russia as he launches a new political party. But questions have arisen about how far he will distance himself from demonstrators, since his business partner is billionaire alternative energy tycoon, George Soros.
According to the Digital Journal, “the U.S. powerful billionaire George Soros supported Prokhorov’s bid to become Russian President. Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, recently has joined forces with billionaire George Soros and Albanian billionaire Sahit Muja in New York to invest in the gold and mining industry. It is a friendship with, Soros and Sahit Muja that flourished in the years that has made billions of dollars for the Russian billionaire.”
Nevertheless, Mr. Prokhorov insists that his new political party would remain loyal to the Kremlin. He unveiled the Civil Platform Party at a news conference on Monday.
As reported by Moscow Times, “the party will participate mostly in regional elections in cities bigger than 500,000 people, Prokhorov said. He was flanked by sister Irina Prokhorova, RBC Television general director Alexander Lyubimov and Federation Council Senator Alexander Pochinok, a former tax and labor minister.”
Prokhorov said, “the only aim of his party is to hold a license, to allow leaders of civil society to take part in elections, since the political system is not where we want to work.”
