A journalist, who enjoys accreditation from the United Nations Correspondents Association, faces a UN inquiry for living in a Toronto home that was paid for by an NGO that networks with the UN secretary general's office.
According to the Asian Tribune, “Matthew Russell Lee’s unethical behavior within the United Nations has lead to an investigation by the United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA) which may result in his expulsion from UNCA.”
Mr. Lee faces charges that he falsified reporting, plagiarism, questionable conduct, defamation and harassment of fellow journalists and UN officials.
"But," as reported by the Asian Tribune, "expulsion from the UNCA appears to be the least of Lee's woes. Reliable sources have indicated that he will be sued for criminal defamation in the United States, and Sri Lankan officials in Colombo have confirmed that they will do the same in the Sri Lankan courts. If convicted, he could face up to seven years of jail time."
Mr. Lee earned notoriety for crashing diplomatic parties to get drunk on free beer. The LTTE organization even gave him a home in Toronto as a "gift" for writing mean-spirited reports against the Sri Lankan government.
Some are expressing concerns that Mr. Lee might disclose the names of his so-called "confidential sources," if indeed he's sued in the defamation cases.

Matthew Lee my good drinking buddy, too bad he won't be joining me anymore on his trips to Sri Lanka to hang out at Tamil Tiger parties. But you would think with his $7 million payout from LTTE that he could use some of that cash to pay for his own beer. Don't you think?
