|Solar Energy, a Green Illusion|
|by Tom McGregor||Mon, Jun 11, 2012, 12:53 AM|
Global Warming alarmists must be alerted to the grave dangers of solar power along with other alternative energy patterns, which have greatly contributed to so-called climate change. Former vice President Al Gore may soon discover that touting oil & gas is less harmful to the environment than promoting the Obama Green Energy Plan.
According to the Digital Journal, “solar cells linked to greenhouse gases over 23,000 times worse than carbon dioxide, according to new book, Green Illusions.”
The book discloses that solar cells do not offset greenhouse gases of reduce fossil fuel use in the U.S. Green Illusions is written by visiting scholar of the University of California – Berkeley, Ozzie Zoehner. He describes how the solar sector has risen to transform into one of the leading emitters of hexafluoroethane (C2F6), nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6). These three dangerous greenhouse gases manufactured by solar cell fabricators make carbon dioxide (CO2) appear harmless.

"DigitalJournal.com is a news network using citizen reporters ("Digital Journalists") who contribute from 140 countries around the world."
That's hardly the academic "journal" you try to mislead your readers into thinking that it is.
And John Perkins, the "pseudo-expert" author of your cited "book" has a degree 44 year old bachelor's degree in business.
The fossil fuel cabal will trump up any unqualified warm body that says what they want to hear, and then attack any scientist that says what they don't want to hear.
Meanwhile China, Germany, and the rest of the world are kicking our technological A in renewable energy.
Why do you guys hate America?

MrD - All you had to do was look up Hexafluoroethane for yourself to confirm that it indeed does have a Global Warming Potential of 9300 and stays in the atmosphere 10,000 years.
Here are the academic credentials of the "expert" cited in the article which is Ozzie Zehner the researcher from Berkeley. He is certainly more qualified than most in this area. http://berkeley.academia.edu/OzzieZehner
It would seem that you may suffer from confirmation bias which has caused you to refuse to acknowledge the facts about green energy which is easily confirmed from independent sources.
You bring up China as an example of a country that is way ahead of the USA in energy technology, but the facts are not with you on your belief. The USA already has wind turbine technology that doesn't require rare Rare Earth Elements (REEs) that require pollution from mining, and enormous amounts of toxins from processing the REEs.This new American technology will allow electricity production at 2 cents/kWh which will put an end to the government subsidies that Germany, UK and the EU impose which has led to 30 cent/kWh costs, blackouts and growing energy poverty in these countries. This past winter more than 600,000 German households were unable to afford to heat their homes and deaths from cold weather in Europe spiked to there highest levels ever. I know these things because I read Der Spiegel (German paper).
The just released 2011 EIA calculations of global CO2 emissions from energy production indicates that from 2006 to 2011 the USA has the largest reduction in CO2 of all the developed countries in Europe at 7.7%. The USA is well on its way to 20% reduction by 2020 without cap and trade, while the EU countries are falling behind on their Kyoto CO2 reduction committments. The Chinese may already be emitting twice as much CO2 as the US from energy production as China now accounts for more than 50% of the global CO2 emissions from coal and it has just been learned that China may have not accounted for 1.4 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions that they actually emitted (cheating on reporting).
You might benefit in knowledge by examing a USA program by the DOE called 'Sun Shot'. This program has just announced a new optics technology on soalr panels that will increase efficiency by 4% and lower panel cost. There are several projects working on replacing expensive REEs used in solar PV with cheap and abundant elements in combination with nanotechnolgy. Your claim that the USA is behind other countries in energy technology is political claptrap. I love America and know that America is leading the world in reducing CO2, black carbon, leaked methane, etc. and I am aware that the USA is leading the world in research and progress in new energy technology. I think you have been unfair in your comments because you lack knowledge in the matter.

Based on that tangential rant I'm not sure if you hate America of if you are just completely crazy.

Why do you think that my pointing out your lack of knowledge or facts on solar PV is crazy? I was defending America against your false claims that America is losing to the likes of China and Germany in tecnological capabilities in solar PV. Current green power systems require mining and processing of rare earth elements which are killing humans and emitting toxins that are destroying the environment. Here is an article on the facts.
You might want to do some research on how destructive it is to the environment to provide the current technology used to provide green power in Germany and China. The USA is developing clean technology that won't require the toxins emitted by current green power. Wise up, and accept that America has not fallen behind anybody.
