On Wednesday, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney set a local GOP fundraising record, collecting $3 million from South Texas donors.
The Houston Chronicle reports that, “organized by B.J. ‘Red’ McCombs, Lowry Mays and others, the lucrative luncheon was the first of Romney’s two campaign events in San Antonio – both closed to the public – before he headed to Houston for more fundraisers.”
Speaking to an elite corps of 380 contributors at the Marriott Rivercenter, Romney enjoyed talking about the GOP favorable outcome of Tuesday’s Wisconsin’s recall election and blasted Obama’s plan to reduce the size of the U.S. military.
According to the Houston Chronicle, “later, speaking to 1,200 USAA employees, Romney repeated those themes and his promises to make a break with President Barack Obama’s policies on health care and job creation.
Romney said, “he’s (Obama) out of ideas, he’s out of excuses, and we’ve got to make sure this November we put him out of office.”
