The European Union had earlier agreed to construct a Nabucco 4,000 kilometers natural gas pipeline from Turkey to the Caspian Sea on the grounds that Iran is supplying some of the natural gas.
The Asia Times reports that, “part of the gas to supply Nabucco may come from Azerbaijan. Another part might – a very problematic ‘might’ – come from Turkmenistan. But every self-respecting energy analyst knows Nabucco could only possibly work if it was supplied by natural gas from Iran.” Hence, EU officials cancelled the pipeline. Meanwhile, is trying to stop Nabucco from accepting natural gas from Iran, since Russia’s top policy agenda is to maintain a stranglehold over the EU’s gas supply to 30%. According to the Asia Times, “a certified winner in this complex Pipelinistan battle is Turkey. After all, any gas from Azerbaijan towards Europe must transit through Turkey.” To read the entire article from the Asia Times, link here: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
