Country legend Randy Travis was celebrating Super Bowl Sunday at his home in a small town in Denton County. But after the game he stumbled out to a nearby church where he was arrested for public intoxication.
The Houston Chronicle reports that, "country singer Randy Travis has apologized after being arrested on a charge of public intoxication outside a North Texas church." Tom Reedy, a Denton County sheriff's spokesman, revealed that police in the town of Sanger took Travis into custody early Monday after spotting a car parked in front of a church and discovering an open bottle of wine and Travis reeking of alcohol. According to the Houston Chronicle, "Reedy says Travis, whose hits include 'Forever and Ever, Amen,' was brought to the Denton County jail about 1:30 a.m. and released six hours later." The country crooner lives in the small town of Tioga near Sanger. In a statement to the Associated Press, he apologized "for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl." Travis is scheduled to launch a concert tour on Friday and claims he's "committed to being responsible and accountable."
