A captain on board a cruise ship wrecks his vessel into rocky terrain and then pushes aside passengers to flee for his own safety. But apparently his fellow crewmembers displayed more despicable behavior, since they would not permit women and children onboard rescue boats in order to escape from the shipwreck before all others.
According to the Daily Mail of London, “it was every man – and crewmember – for himself. Survivors from the Costa Concordia spoke angrily yesterday of the nightmare evacuation from the stricken ship as women and children were left behind.”
During the shocking ordeal after the giant vessel started to sink, fights even broke out amongst sailors over who would first get into lifeboats.
As reported by the Daily Mail, “men refused to prioritize women, expectant mothers and children as they pushed themselves forward to escape. Crew ignored their passengers – leaving ‘chefs and waiters’ to help out.”
In disturbing footage recorded on cell phones, British children could be heard screaming “Daddy” and “Mommy” in the tragic circumstances.
