Apples and Oranges Print E-mail
by James Reza    Mon, Nov 28, 2011, 08:56 AM

The expression of comparing apples and oranges occurs when two items or groups of items are compared that cannot be validly compared.  One glaring example is the difference in the media trying to compare the actions of the Tea Party Activists and the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) groups.

Some months ago I attended a Tea Party rally in downtown Fort Worth.  While there I listened to several speakers talk about our government’s inability to control it’s spending and warned those in attendance that if our government elected reps didn’t stop their bad spending habits or brought under control, we can easily become like Greece, which is now bankrupt due to their government spending more while at the same time taking less in tax revenues due to the lack of jobs.  Which is exactly what is occurring in our country as I write this piece. As I observed the Tea Party crowd, I couldn’t help but notice that the group consisted of blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and Anglos.  The Tea Party goers conducted themselves in an orderly manner, rented several portable toilets, and the signs most attendees held were not vulgar, racists, or demeaning to others who didn’t side with their views.  Though there were policemen present, none of the Tea Party crowd intimidated them or hurled verbal insults at them.  The Tea Party speakers also spoke eloquently in expressing their views without any curse or insulting words utter over their microphones. After the crowd dispersed, I couldn’t help but notice that most of the attendees picked up their own litter and disposed of it in the plentiful trash cans found in and around downtown Fort Worth.

Folks, I’m sure many of you have noticed how the mainstream media has tried to paint the Tea Party protesters as racist, bigots, hell raisers and Lord knows what else.  Truth of the matter is, that the media by in large is in lock step with the Democrat Party and their liberal agenda.  Thus, they hate anyone or any group that wants to shrink the size of government and their socialist programs.

From what I’ve gathered in observing the Occupy Wall Street crowd is a movement of a supposedly financially disenfranchised people who don’t have a clue of what the heck they are complaining about, or, they are totally misinformed in blaming Wall Street and businesses in general for whatever bad situation they find themselves in.  If these OWS protesters are out of work, don’t have money, can’t find a job, etc. they are desperately looking for someone or something to blame for their own self inflicted misery.  And as they vent their frustrations they are leaving a negative view of their actions with a majority of Americans.  Sure, one has the right to assemble and protest their anger at government, or whatever, but these folks have in many cities overstepped their boundaries.  For instance, in Baltimore, at a OWS gathering several rape victims were urged not to report their attackers to the police, but rather to a “security committee” who will investigate the incident and provide counseling to the perpetrator. In a Cleveland OWS gathering, a 19-year-old student was ordered to share a tent with a man who then sexually assaulted her.  The assault was not reported to law enforcement until two days later when the girl related the incident to a professor.  In a Seattle OWS rally, a participant was arrested for exposing himself to young children at least five times.  In one instance, he approached a pair of 13-year-olds playing at a public park and “performed a lewd act.”  In many cities where these OWS groups are gathering and protesting some city officials are beginning to retaliate by police force to control their criminal activities and to stop the harassment of everyday workers who happen to walk by their camps.  This information I’ve posted of the wrong doings of these OWS buffoons, I obtained from police reports from several different cities where these OWS groups have assembled to protest.  Make note that the mainstream media did not post any of these awful criminal behavior committed by these lawless OWS groups.  But, had the Tea Party groups conducted themselves in the same disorderly manner the OWS behaved, you can bet that the media would have blasted it nightly in their news reports.

After viewing how the OWS protesters have demonstrated, I for the love of me cannot understand who in their right mind would support their actions.  However, President Obama has fully endorsed their actions. He stated, “These protesters are giving voice to a more broad-based frustration about how our financial systems works.”  Folks, here is a President who defended his administration’s approval of a $535 million loan guarantee to Solyndra, a now defunct solar company and termed it a “successful” investment.  Then you have his close friend, ex-New Jersey Governor Jon S. Corzine-D who’s company, MF Global, now bankrupt, has hundred of millions of dollars in customer money that has gone missing.  And President Obama has the audacity to lambaste Wall Street investors?

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi also weigh in the OWS protesters.  She stated, “God bless them for their spontaneity.  It’s young, it’s spontaneous, it’s focused and it’s going to be effective.  The message of the American people is that no longer will the recklessness of some on Wall Street cause massive joblessness on Main Street.”

My friends, these littering, store looters, raping, murdering, defecating, urinating, in the public OWS protesters have in my humble opinion vented their misguided anger towards those Americans who are successful, hardworking, smart investors, and businessmen.  They’d make a more valid and more common sense protest if they would round up all of their village idiots and haul them to the White House where our country’s financial and unemployment problems have originated!

The author is "NOT" comparing apples and oranges; he's trying to compare "GRAPES WITH WATER-MELONS."

Then he tries to down-grade our president with everything that goes wrong in this country.

Republicans blame our president (just like they did Clinton) for every little (or big) thing wrong that happens. Like I ASKED before, "WHO ARE THEY GOING TO BLAME IF THEIR WIVES COME OUT PREGNANT.?"

Congress needs to work on what's best for America; "NOT" just on what's best for a party "OR" a few select people.

There are some "SHAMELESS" dudes out there.

-excerpt-
"I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all "ENEMIES", foreign and "DOMESTIC"; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same and that I will obey the orders of the "PRESIDENT" of the United States"

It is sad! The state of this nation is sad....and getting worse. Good people have been taken in and "convinced" by these leftwing socialists. You and many like you, James, are criticized and condemned for telling the truth. You are not the only one who has noticed the difference in news coverage by the social media as it pertains to the 2 groups. The truth is so obvious but it eludes the masses, the herd! Feed 'em, give 'em handouts, make 'em promises that you never will or can keep...and they will follow you no matter how disgustingly dishonest and corrupt you are! Is any one better off than they were 3 years ago? "YES," those who received bailout money and Obama's political supporters are better off, but not the rest of us poor middle, working class suckers! And, if you are so bold to criticize the worse President in the history of this nation you are "shameless." It was O.K. to criticize George Bush, but not Obama. Double-standard, self-serving leftist propaganda. The Obama presidency it the worse travesty that this nation has ever endured. It seems that too many have forgotten his empty promises such as "transparency;" there has never been any such thing during this man's tenure. And, what about all of those bailouts! It's incredible that good people have been brain-washed by this charlatan. Thank God that there are still some of us who know the truth and are not afraid to "tell like it is!" Who would you trust your grandchildren with....The Tea Party or OWS? No Contest!

The ones taken in are poor people like you Joe. You can never admit when you're wrong; and that's the biggest problem our nation has. Who do you believe is the worse president we have ever had? You're joking. Right? One thing is to criticize, and another is to defend the truth.

http://www.wildnesswithin.com/worst.html

If the rest of us suckers are not making it,
it's because you believe the hoodwinkers. The bailouts were started by Dubya.

Our people are being denied education. And many families are having a hard time feeding their children. Do you believe that we should let all these children (people) starve to death? Pitiful.

The Republicans harp about not raising taxes; and you believe them. When we don't want to raise taxes, just get the taxes back where they were before Dubya signed the breaks for all those $millionaires.

Isn't it interesting that the OWS movement was started by Canadians (Adbusters)whose stated purpose is "to advance the new social activist movement of the information age". The OWS website says it is using the "Arab Spring" methodology of protest which was originally designed to protest police brutality and unfair treatment. Then OWS allowed itself (which it describes as leaderless) to be infiltrated by unions, politicins, celebrities and anyone else looking for their 15 minutes. I searched the OWS website looking for what it is they really want and I finally found this statement: "The current depression-level crisis is not due to lack of revenue. It's due to theft. The trillions that the banks are sitting on right now? That's our money. Whether through taxes; the looting of pension and social security contributions; or the wealth we created from our labor -- all of that belongs to us. Come to Wall Street August 2 and strategize -- on how to get that back!" Now I'm not the smartest person in the world but the concept that the Wall Street Banks have trillions of dollars from taxes and looting Social Security seems out of place. Isn't it Congress that spent the taxes and SSA Trust Fund? Isn't it Congress that allowed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, in spite of warnings back in the 90's that they would go bankrupt if they did not change their ways, to continue to fund mortgages that had no chance of succeeding?
It seems to me those people should be occupying Congress and calling for the ouster of every single member of Congress that voted to spend money we don't have. DUH!! That would be everyone. We are our own worst enemy because we continue to send these profligates back to Washington every year.
As to the Tea Party being racist there seems to be a general consensus that the media has pushed this idea relentlessly. In fact, Allen West, one of 32 African-Americans who ran for Congress in 2010 as Republicans, says the notion of racism in the Tea Party movement has been made up by the news media.
Many media allegations about racism at Tea Party events have later proves to be false.
The fact is that in our divisive, confrontational society, people will believe what they want to believe and have no interest in learning the truth.
Charlie says "Republicans blame our president (just like they did Clinton) for every little (or big) thing wrong that happens." But isn't that what happened with Bush? IN fact he is still being blamed 3 years later which seems to me to be a long enough time to fix any of his transgressions.
While I'm old and don't remember everything like Charlie does, it seems to me that this divisiveness started near the end of the Bush Senior term when the raising of taxes by a Democratic Congress came back to haunt him in the reelection campaign as the Democratic machine ran vilifying ads about "Read my lips, no new taxes" when in fact the tax laws were passed by a Democratic controlled Congress.
SO, if you want to know the truth try reading the foreign press or watch the BBC. Otherwise you will get the slant that Fox, MSNBC, the Dallas Morning News, or any other so called news organization wants you to get.
My Mother always told me "Don't believe anything you read and only half of what you see" and she has been dead for 40 years.

gnstb, I agree with some of what you say. Your mother was much like mine. The only thing different was that she always told me to believe only what was true; "NOT" what I wanted to be true. And as painful as it might be, "NEVER LIE."

The fact remains that if Dubya hadn't signed the tax cuts for the rich, we were projected to be out of debt by next year. (2012)

As for OWS vs the tea party, they're much alike. Perhaps a little different tactics?

As far as Wall street, the rich, the banks, etc. go, why don't we jail the guilty?

Yesterday:
Prosecuting Wall Street

(CBS News) "Two whistleblowers offer a rare window into the root causes of the subprime mortgage meltdown. Eileen Foster, a former senior executive at Countrywide Financial, and Richard Bowen, a former vice president at Citigroup, tell Steve Kroft the companies ignored their repeated warnings about defective, even fraudulent mortgages. The result, experts say, was a cascading wave of mortgage defaults for which virtually no high-ranking Wall Street executives have been prosecuted."

By the way gnstb; I don't know how old you are, but I've been on this earth since 1935 and I can remember "SOME" things that happened since before I was 1 year old. And I can tell you, that through all that has happened to this day, I have never seen this country so divided, hateful, and greedy.
