Archbishop Cancels Catholic School's Jihad Dinner Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Sat, Aug 27, 2011, 08:23 am

Archbishop Dennis Schurr of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati ordered a Catholic high school to drop plans to celebrate a Ramadan dinner in conjunction with a Muslim organization accused of raising money for militant Islamic terrorists. Federal officials have linked the Muslim advocacy group, CAIR, to a terror financing case.

According to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star-Tribune, “Cincinnati Archbishop Dennis Schurr received ‘emotionally charged’ emails – mostly from outside the area – and asked the school to cancel plans to host the Friday night dinner, Kirsten MacDougal, president of Mother of Mercy school, told the Cincinnati Enquirer. The dinner to build goodwill with Muslims will be held instead at a church parish center.”

Dan Andriacco, a spokesman for the Cincinnati archdiocese, told the Associated Press that there were no threats among the ‘heated’ complaints over the school’s intentions of co-hosting the meal with the local chapter of the Council of Islamic Relations, but the archbishop still wants to protect the children’s safety from Islamic militants who were expected to attend the dinner.

As reported by the Star-Tribune, “there was an elevated emotional temperature on the part of some people that caused the archbishop some concern.”

The Star-Tribune added, “the Washington D.C.-based Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization has been on the radar of federal agencies investigating terrorism for years, and the FBI no longer works directly with the group … said Mike Brooks, the FBI spokesman in Cincinnati.”
