HuntsmanCare Resembles RomneyCare and ObamaCare Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Thu, Jun 2, 2011, 03:01 am

Access Huntsman.jpgWhen Jon Huntsman was the governor of Utah, he proposed a healthcare plan, which looked remarkably similar to RomneyCare and ObamaCare legislation. The only difference, RomneyCare passed state legislation and was signed into law and ObamaCare passed federal legislation and was signed into law, while Utah lawmakers firmly rejected Huntsman’s mandates.

Politico reports that, “conservatives have been attacking Jon Huntsman over his previous flirtation with an individual mandate as governor of Utah – but a Huntsman noted that the series of laws that the governor eventually signed into law ultimately lacked a requirement that citizens purchase insurance. But it raises the question – what exactly was the health care bill that Huntsman signed into law as governor of Utah?”

Actually, what Huntsman signed into law appeared to be blueprint for radical changes. The governor’s office by 2007 had made healthcare a top priority. His office released an initial plan in conjunction with outside groups like the United Way and the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce that called for a mandate and the establishment of a nonprofit health exchange, both features that ended up in ObamaCare. Just as the legislature took up the bill, the Chamber signed onto the plan in early 2008.

According to Politico, “the draft version of Huntsman’s plan was a starting point for negotiations in the Utah legislature, but the individual mandate proved controversial among lawmakers. Behind closed doors, the mandate was stripped and eventually the legislature settled on a bill that simply created a task force. The task force was charged with developing the plan, taking the issue partly out of the hands of the legislature. But as late as February 2008, Huntsman was still pushing the mandate idea.”

Government needs to get out of our lives either with the Democracts or the Republicans! They are breaking the system!
