Former Houston Mayor Bill White, the Democratic Party’s nominee for the Texas gubernatorial race, loves President Barack Obama’s ‘Cap and Trade’ bill on carbon emissions so much that he’s demanding Texans lower their electricity usage and rely less on coal. Mr. White appears to be campaigning as the ‘Green Obama’ if he’s elected governor of Texas. The Dallas Morning News reports that, “White said at a Gulf Coast Power Association conference Wednesday that the state needs stricter efficiency standards for new buildings, and should upgrade efficiency in state buildings.” Mr. White said, “we need to focus on three things: Energy efficiency in buildings, energy efficiency in vehicles, and displacing some coal-fired power production with natural gas.” He contends this will reduce utility bills, clean the air and decrease oil imports. Also, he promoted incentives for solar power. According to the Morning news, “the Rick Perry campaign sent a rebuttal about White’s energy plan to journalist ahead of the speech. According to the governor’s campaign, implementing White’s ideas in certain ways could cost as much as $4 billion.” Mr. White claims to be seeking consensus with industry executives so that his ideas would ultimately cut costs. White also castigated Perry for cutting red tape on air-permitting for coal-fired power plants a few years ago. The TXU Corporation, at the time, warned that Texas could endure black-outs without more coal plants.” Since that time, Texas has not suffered from many black outs. written by furrpiece , September 30, 2010 Bill White is for Cap and Trade. He would destroy even more jobs than Obama while raising energy costs through the roof, and thereby raising ALL costs to businesses AND consumers. What a moronic notion in Texas or Washington at the peak of a recession, and with unemployment climbing and through the roof. Why is almost every solution of Democrats more spending, more borrowing, bigger government, and more taxing?

written by Dr. Little , September 30, 2010 Look closely at Bill White's REAL background : not at the "legend" that is being presented in the campaign ads. This guy is a hardened, experienced, trained, committed, and wizened DEM "aparatchik"....... Like BAHAMA, he presents well on campaign ads....

written by furrpiece , September 30, 2010 All of the solar panels in the world today, and all of the wind turbines in the world today, cannot equal the energy output of one single coal mine. Mayor White needs to consider this fact before sounding as ignorant and uninformed as Obama.

written by Dr. Little , September 30, 2010 Calm down FURRPIECE ! You need to accept something that is a sad reality : DEMS, as a group, are not at all "smart" about how the world really works, even though they will fight you in their attempt to prove how "smart" they want to claim to be ..... they are ignoramusses, in actual fact. Now this reality about DEMS is not in itself reassuring; but if you accept it for what it is, and accept that you cannot change it, then you will not lose any more sleep worrying about why DEMS [like Bill White and BAHAMA, for two examples] are always out in the "Bozone Layer".

written by Doofusleven , September 30, 2010 @ Dr. Little. You say Democrats (that's how it is spelled) are not "smart." At least they know how to spell the President's name. Good luck on that book.

written by Shadrach , October 01, 2010 Let's be clear - your can make up your own opinions, but you cannot make up your own facts: 1) Bill White is not for Cap and Trade - this falsehood scored the GOP a "pants on fire" rating, yet the Perry crowd keeps repeating it anyway. http://politifact.com/texas/statements/2010/mar/14/cathie-adams/cathie-adams-who-chairs-texas-gop-says-bill-white-/ 2) Nothing he said about increasing efficiency and using more Texas drilled clean natural gas instead of "imported" from Wyoming dirty coal is even remotely related to cap and trade. Really -- I cannot tell who are bigger brain-usage-free sheep -- those in the GOP who never question anything fellow GOPers say, or those Democrats who do the same. Why do you guys automatically fall for any falsehood that the GOP leadership puts out? Can we please exercise our brains, even a little?

written by furrpiece , October 01, 2010 If you are, in any way, in favor of capping energy use or employing regulations for energy rationing, then you are a de facto supporter of Cap and Trade (a/k/a Cap and Tax). The only energy rationing that does not qualify is the standardized use of emergency electrical grid demand reductions to prevent brown-outs or black-outs. Bill White has made it quite clear that he is for caps on energy use, rather than allowing the marketplace to employ price and need as the limiting factors for consumption. I agree that it is unfair to mis characterize Mayor White's positions on issues. But, he's wrong on so many that it's quite a challenge to keep up.

written by Shadrach , October 02, 2010 Furrpiece: You sir, are mistaken. First, there is simply nothing about what White said that caps energy usage. Second, "Cap and Trade" is a very specific idea - originally created by Republicans, that places a cap on all users of carbon and allows persons under their cap to sell their excess amount. An attempt to reduce carbon by efficiency and by supporting alternate non-carbon producing methods is neither "cap and trade," nor in any essence a "cap." Please take your GOP blinders of and think withot bias for once.

written by furrpiece , October 02, 2010 I believe any amount of government-imposed rationing of energy use in the name of reducing carbon emissions walks on the same side of the narrow path of Cap and Trade. After all, Cap and Trade is merely a rationing system where one buys (or pays penalties for use of) carbon emitting energy. [Which is most energy.] The scam perpetrated by Obama that carbon dioxide is a poisonous environmentally destructive gas is just the think veneer of a deep-dish collection of bad energy policies designed to save the planet which, by the way, won't change temperatures or carbon content enough to make an even noticeable difference. Any form of government-imposed limitations, no matter how small or seemingly innocuous, represents government intervention and central monetary policy efforts to impact the enormous hoax of global warming/change/mystical transition, etc.

written by Shadrach , October 04, 2010 Furrpiece: Wake up and smell the coffee. 1) There are no caps or rationing in anything Bill White has ever said; 2) Global warming is real -- when every glacier in glacier national park is gone will that be enough? How about when the polar ice cap is gone? How about when Mt. Fuji, Kilanmanjaro and the Matterhorn all are devoid of snowcaps? How about when that Australian Barrier Reef has been kiled by hot water? BTW - all of these are in progress. 3) Market responses to this environmental reality -- creating markets for wind and solar electricity, creating markets for natural gas cars, allowing entrepreneurial spirit of Texas businesses to create Texas energy for Texas people are all parts of addressing these issues without caps or rationing. Just drive from Dallas to Denver and you will see 1000's of windmills. This is not rocket science -- it is applied Capitalism. Write comment
