The Department of Housing and Urban Development may force The Houston Chronicle reports that, “a HUD official said the agency remains in ‘evaluation’ mode and is working with the city to resolve adverse findings, but declined to comment on any potential new problems being investigated.” City officials describe HUD’s challenges to its use of federal cash as just old news, yet sources with intimate knowledge of the topic insist that the city could be on the hook to pay back between $35 million and $45 million due to prior problems and newly-identified problems, which include questions about ‘Houston Hope’ homes, a key initiative of then-Mayor Bill White that claimed to help low and middle-income individuals purchase their own houses. Mayor Annise Parker rebuked Mr. White for his past actions. She said, “I don’t intend to send any money back, but if previous administrations have done stupid things, we’re going to fix them.” According to the Chronicle, “for years, White championed a set of initiatives called ‘Houston Hope’ designed to spur investment and development in several depressed communities using land obtained from foreclosed tax-delinquent properties. written by Shadrach , September 29, 2010 Okay; so these issues go back to 2001, and White became Mayor in 2004. ?????? In any event, if at least part of it ocurred on his watch, one can make a claim that White is responsible for it. Curious, to be a non-hypocrite, one would have to agree that such responsibility occurrs for anybody "in charge." So, is Governor Perry responsible for the assualt of innocent mentally challenged individuals who were forced to participate in videotaped "Fight Clubs" against their will that occurred on his watch? Is Perry responsible for the cover up of child abuse at the Youth Commission on his watch? Is Perry responsible for the missing / miscounted Billion dollars at the Department of Transportation? Remember, you can say that the person in charge is responsible for everything or you can actually look for whether person in charge actually had anything to do (Like acts or omissions) relate to the issue. Either way, it is a 2-way street.

written by Ken Dickson , September 29, 2010 Bill White mismanaged Houston his entire tenure! He left it in shambles, was a part of the Carter era gasoline shortages, & has no plan other than an Obama-type administration for Texas. He will be BAD for Texas! Perry may have his faults, but White will be a disaster! Write comment
