A few weeks ago, Dallas County District Attorney, a Democrat, unleashed an emotional and shocking temper tantrum at the Dallas County Commissioners’ Court. His actions appeared deeply disturbing, but to regular observers, he was a ‘softie’ in comparison to other elected officials attending these meetings. Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price, a Democrat and Ken Mayfield, a Republican, have engaged in such legendary feuding that Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez must deploy her deputies to patrol the hearings to prevent a violent and potentially fatal altercation. Certainly, Mr. Price deserves recognition as the most combative politician inside the Commissioners’ Court. When his rages erupt, a vein on the right side of his forward appears ready to burst and an overabundance of saliva spews from his mouth. He once exploded at Mr. Mayfield, calling him a racist for talking about Devil’s Food Cake. Mr. Price contends that even food has racist connotations, since Angel’s Food Cake is white and Devil’s Food Cake is black. Nevertheless, the Dallas Morning News reports that, “the candidates for county judge – a Democrat Clay Jenkins and Republican Wade Emmert – want that to change. They envision a Commissioners’ Court when people are treated with dignity and the opinions of rivals, even in dissent, are respected.” Just give that suggestion o Mr. Price and see how long it takes before he mocks you. Yet, Mr. Jenkins has been endorsed by Mr. Price and he’s rebuking his political patron. Jenkins said, “unfortunately, our Commissioners’ Court resembles a bad episode of Jerry Springer. It needs to resemble a board that runs a public company that serves the citizens.” To read the entire article from the Dallas Morning News, link here:

written by R , September 27, 2010 "Personhood?" Anybody so stupid as to think Clay Jenkins will actually stand up to JWP is stupid enough to still vote for Obama. Sorry, don't mean to offend somebody's personhood.

written by furrpiece , September 27, 2010 Everyone in Dallas County knows who the problem people are at the Commissioners Court. It's no secret. To me, the challenge is whether old hands like Price can work with new leadership from a different party. During Lee Jackson's term, John W. Price was actually a strong supporter of Judge Jackson, and often voted with the business community. The biggest problem has been the last two county judges, each with a style that didn't lend itself to the Court (to put it nicely). The dynamics between five people with that much power are interesting. There has to be a great deal of respect shown for each other in order to make things work. Coalitions change; friendships change; but the power relationships don't. I think Clay Jenkins can do the job better than the last two judges. But, he's going to have to invest a lot of time and patience in learning the "rhythms" of the court.

written by rufuslevin , September 29, 2010 he better learn about Devil's Food Cake and astronomical Black Holes before he opens his mouth in open Commissioner's Court sessions. The IQ level of the entire group is insufficient to pass 9th grade at DISD. Wearing funky glasses and a bow tie does not make one any smarter, but a whole lot stupider looking. Write comment
