DA Watkins Forgets to Pay House Bill Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Sun, Aug 22, 2010, 05:29 PM

Craig Home.jpgDallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins claims he’s “getting smart on crime,” but he’s not getting smart on paying his bills, which includes a monthly mortgage payment, his law license dues to the State Bar of Texas, advertising payments to the Southwestern Bell Yellow Pages, and income taxes.

According to the Dallas Morning News, “Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins defaulted on payment of his home loan two years ago, according to county records. The default on the loan by Watkins and his wife, Tanya, on their DeSoto home occurred in November 2008. County records show that a lien was placed on the property that same month.”

The documents do not disclose how Watkins’ defaulted or how much cash was owed. As revealed by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, the house was never placed on the foreclosure list that would infer that the necessary payments were made.

The Watkins’ family initially owed $559,200 for their house in 2003, the records disclosed. The home is appraised for $549,900, according to the Dallas Central Appraisal District.

As reported by the Morning News, “Watkins, a Democrat, who is seeking re-election in November, declined through his representative to comment about the documents.

Watkins’ campaign spokesman, Eric Celeste, also declined to converse about the topic, saying via a text message, “we respond to legitimate questions about making Dallas safer or campaign issues, not personal political attacks.”

Watkins’ Republican opponent, Danny Clancy, refuse to comment. The 2008 default had not been the first time unpaid bills were a difficulty for Watkins.

11 months after he was sworn in as district attorney – in December 2007 – his law license had been briefly suspended when he failed to pay his dues to the State Bar of Texas.

Oh, Tom: you are far too critical. You are a bad person and a total partisan.

And Sarah Palin forgot to pay income taxes and the McCains forgot to pay property taxes.

Is there a point you are trying to make here?

And Palin and McCain had the right connections, mainly, George W. Bush, so that they did not have IRS liens on their property like Craig did.

This is blatent racism.

Oh bull on the racism comment Booner. Whenever POLITICIANS run for office, they lay bare their personal finances and it's fair game for everyone to comment. They've done it for every single candidate regardless of color so stop being such a crybaby. Paying your bills, aka, your RESPONSIBILITIES, is and should be part of what makes up a person with good CHARACTER, morals, and ethics. If you are a deadbeat, I don't care what color you are. There is NO SUCH THING as FORGETTING to pay your taxes. Anyone who does so, should be automatically disqualified from ANY race for office. Period.

OK. I take back the racisam. But it's still Bush's fault!
