LifeSiteNews reports that, “New Jersey’s Star Ledger reported that Christie in his veto message said that ‘the state simply cannot fund every worthy program’ and would not restore $7.5 million for family planning clinics that he had cut from the state’s budget for fiscal year 2011.” Executive Director Marie Tasy of New Jersey Right to life, praised Gov. Christie fro standing by his decision to slash funds for Planned Parenthood. The Star Ledger quotes Ms. Tasy as saying that, “the taxpayers of New Jersey are under no obligation to fund the radical and failed social agenda of Planned Parenthood. We commend Gov. Christie for his steadfast opposition to restoring these funds.” According to LifeSiteNews, “Christie issued the veto along with vetoes of two bills that would have established a $100 million tax credit program for new homebuyers, and redirected government funds to enroll 39,000 low-income individuals in the state subsidized health insurance program.” In a stern message to the legislature, Christie said, “state spending has been reset to levels the taxpayers can afford. Supplemental spending that would return to the unchecked spending and out of control shortfalls of the past will not make it past the Governor’s desk.” Nevertheless, reports indicate that the Democrat-controlled legislature is seeking to launch a veto-override. written by furrpiece , July 30, 2010 To date, Gov. Christie has shown what common sense and sound economic principles can do to clean up a real mess. He has also stood firm against unions who would take N.J. to economic bankruptcy. Unions have largely killed the manufacturing base of our country, and have exported tens of millions of jobs overseas since 1960. At least Gov. Christie is a big enough man to fight back -- and win. Go Gov!

written by rufuslevin , July 30, 2010 Whitney, when you grow up enough to stop posting with text messaging shorthand, and pay attention to what folks that KNOW more than you about the government, the economy, and the failing policies of this abysmal Federal government is doing...maybe you will get attention. In the meantime, go back to school and pay attention this time.

written by Shadrach , July 30, 2010 It is unfortunate that so many on the right automatically assume that support for planned parenthood is support for abortion. By law, Planned Parenthood has to keep non-abortion family planning and abortion services seperate. Family planning is an important means to limit the number of abortions by limiting the number of unwanted pregnancies. Supporting Family planning services in low-income areas is a proven method to reduce the number of children on AFDC. Chritie may have save 7.5 million now, but the result will be more abortions and/or more state money spent on AFDC. Either way, unless he is merely transferring these funds to a family planning organization that does no abortions, his action is neither well thought out, nor fiscally conservative. Overall, Governor Christie has done a better job than I expected him to. But this action is more about politics to make his base happy than about the need to save money.

written by rapnsum , July 30, 2010 Planned Parenthood currently receives one millions dollars per day of federal tax money. That is ridiculous because Planned Parenthood is founded on eugenics. It is a provable fact that Margaret Sanger gave a speech to the KLAN and received an additional dozens invites from the KKK and Planned Parenthood's past president and recent undercover stings prove they continue to collect "racist donations". If you want a jaw dropping look inside Planned Parenthood while they are taking billions from our taxes - get the powerful documentary Maafa21 here http://www.maafa21.com and defund Planned Parenthood forever ! Good for Christie - he is the beginning !

written by rufuslevin , August 01, 2010 Well, between 2002 and 2008, planned parenthood got over $1.3 BILLION taxpayer dollars to support "their mission". If they were just passing out condoms and pamphlets...that is a lot of money for rubbers and magazines! If that is not somehow govt paying for abortions, or abortion PROMOTION...I do not know how you SPEND that kind of money. Write comment

Gov. Chris Christie (R.-N.J.) intends to fulfill his campaign promises by restoring state government to fiscal sanity. He even vetoed a bill that would have provided $7.5 million in state aid to “family planning” clinics, most of which are operated by Planned Parenthood.
