On Monday, Tom Pauken, a former Reagan administration official and Texas Republican Party chairman, castigated the George W. Bush administration for being "lousy" and wasting two generations of political capital built up by conservatives aligned with Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater.According to the Houston Chronicle, "Tom Pauken at a press conference on the release of his new book 'Bringing America Home: How America Lost Her Way and How We Can Find Our Way Back."
Not only did Pauken critique Bush's presidential performance, he lays out a number of steps he believes will improve the state of the nation, which includes a change to the business tax system and return to conservative cultural values.
The Vietnam veteran and top Veterans' Administration official in the Reagan administration insists that the blame for the present state of the nation rests with both parties.
The Chronicle quotes Pauken as saying that, "unfortunately there's a tendency, even among those on my side of the aisle, the Republican aisle, to get upset when the Democrats do something, but not acknowledge the responsibility of some of our post-Reagan Republican leaders."
Mr. Pauken, who is the commissioner of the Texas Workforce Commission under Gov. Rick Perry, placed special scorn upon Bush administration figures including Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, who will soon release his book on Tuesday.

written by Steve Heath , March 10, 2010 It's time that Republicans admit the reality that the reason we now have Obama - is because of Bush/Cheney, the Neo-conservatives, compassionate conservatives and big government corporate conservatives that were so prevalent in the Republican Congress. What was wrong with old-fassioned Goldwater/Reagan conservatism? The problem I see is that despite the conservative rhetoric from Republicans, no one will believe them. They have lost credibilty. They had their chance. Republicans may win some seats by default, by virtue of the fear and concerns Americans have for what the Obama Administration is doing, but what good would it do to elect more of the same we had under Bush? Four more years of ruinous wars we cannot afford. Four more years of ruinous deficits, based on entitlement programs to the paharmaceutical Industry though the disastrous Medicare Prescription program? Four more years of destroying Liberty though Big Brother programs like the Patriot Act. No wonder Ron Paul won the CPAC poll. Maybe we are ready for a change. We should listen to people like Tom.

written by carloszaldivar , March 11, 2010 ..is of no surprise the Republicans have a long history of trying to please the liberals, when we all know it would be as good as trying to befriend a wall. is there such a thing as middle of the road on real issues, as in the case of abortion, and printing money we do not have??
