Politico reports that, "Huckabee, a 2008 Republican presidential contender and potential 2012 candidate who had spoken at the conference for years, said the reason he blew it off this year was that the meeting had become dominated by libertarian activists." In an interview with Fox News, where he's a paid analyst and hosts his own TV show, Huckabee said, "CPAC has become increasingly more libertarian and less Republican over the last years, one of the reasons I didn't go this year." Huckabee was answering a question about whether he felt upset by his single-digit showing in the conference straw poll that was won by libertarian-leaning Rep. Ron Paul (R.-Tx.). However, it was not the only rebuke he luanched against CPAC. According to Politico, "Huckabee said the rise of the tea party movement had 'taken all the oxygen out of the room,' rendering the venerable conference far less relevant than it had been in previous years. The former governor said, "where CPAC was historically the event, the tea parties are having their own events all over the country and lot more truly grassroots people are getting involved because of the tea parties." When goaded by Fox host Geraldo Rivera, Huckabee added, "because of the way that it solicits sponsors, it's almost becomes a pay-for-play. it's kind of like, who will pay more money to be able to be a sponsor and get time in the program. That's one of the things that has hurt its credibility in the last couple of years." written by John D. , February 23, 2010 Huckabee name-calls a large group that is representative of the views of millions of Americans? A conservative group of whom 96% support someone besides him for President? What a shock. This smooth, snake oil-peddling wolf in sheep's clothing is the quintessential "welfare-warfare" neo-con the people he hates have so well exposed in recent years. They exposed him well enough to derail his Presidential aspirations in 2008 and I don't imagine he appreciates that. Numerous conservative Republican leaders in Arkansas where Huckabee served as governor have publicly accused him of derailing the conservative movement in that state due to his unwise early releases of hardened criminals--some of whom committed more atrocities once on the street--and for his spendthrift liberal fiscal philosophy. Just as unsettling, his well-polished outward charm notwithstanding, is Huckabee's legendary vicious temper. Perhaps there are precedents for men glorifying God by abandoning their gospel ministries as pastors of large evangelical churches, for lifelong careers in secular politics. After watching, reading, and listening to Huckabee for years now, I see little evidence that he is one. Write comment

Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas, denounced the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Saturday as outdated, seemingly corrupt and not truly representative of the conservative movement.
