The Republican Party has officially denounced the notion of utilizing affirmative action in the business world, under the assumption that hiring should be based on merit, not the color of one's skin. Ironically, the GOP is facing turmoil in the leadership ranks, because party eleders elected a party chirman based on the candidate's ethnic background. Now, they can't fire the bumbling Michael S. Steele over fears that moderates, Democrats and the mainstream media will accuse the GOP of having "racist" motives.
According to Politico, "among top GOP operatives in Washington, there is overwhelming majority sentiment that the Republican National Committee blundered a year ago when it tapped Michael S. Steele as its chairman. There is egually strong sentiment among members of the RNC about what Republicans can do about it now: nothing." As a high-profile African-American politician, Steele gained strong status in the Republican Party that faces serious obstacles due to the party's weakness among non-white voters. Hence, Steele was chosen as the RNC chairman to appeal to more African-American voters. Yet the decision had made Steele an 'untuchable' force within the Republican Party and he can't be fired even though he has already earned notoriety as an "unfocused and gaffe-prone leader," whose ethical behavior has been deemed questionable at best. One of the party's most influential strategists and a pivotal player on presidential campaigns said, "I don't think there is any chance he's going to be dumped before the next election for the obvious reason. You're not going to dump the first African-American chairman. That's the only reason. Otherwise, he'd be gone." As reported by Politico, "a long-time member of the party committee added: 'the optics of pushing any chairman out don't look very good, but (Steele's race) puts a much finer point on it." Politico reports that, "the perception of an overwhelmingly white party launching a coup to take out a black leader when the country has its first African-American in the White House would be disastrous, says senior Republicans - a bigger distraction to the party than Steele's frequent off-message detours are now." written by furrpiece , January 11, 2010 If Michael Steele was hired because of his race, which he was, then it would seem logical to most people that he wasn't fired because of his race. In fact, he needs to be fire for insubordination, fiscal mismanagement, failing to accomplish the missions of his job, and misappropriation of funds. All of this can likely be proved with little effort. I think it is a mistake to keep Steele on because of his race. That only penalizes future blacks seeking jobs at the top in the RNC. While I still believe Michael Steele could acquit himself and become an excellent RNC Chairman, I don't think he'll do what is necessary to accomplish that. (He clearly doesn't listen to advice.) At least the RNC has discovered that the race of the Chairman doesn't make a big difference to anyone. So, they might as well focus on quality, and not color.

written by furrpiece , January 12, 2010 I hate to tell you John, but the person that gave you your information about the economy lied to you! It started under Carter, but exploded under Clinton when he order banks to lend money to people who couldn't possibly pay it back, and when he ordered mortgage companies to sell houses to people who couldn't afford them. In addition, you can thank Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and even Barack Obama. They perpetuated this economic foolishness under the mortgage bubble blew, and everything backed up on financial institutions. Worse yet, Democrats continue to make matters worse.

written by Ken Dickson , January 12, 2010 The Republicans need to get their act together, move forward, & show the leadership they have the capicity to do! The leadership needs to recognize the falicy of the present administration, & field those who can lead us out of this "maze" of fraud created by the likes of Carter, Clinton. Dodd, Frank, & yes, supported by the Republicans. Steele needs to get down to business, & if not, resign! Write comment
