According to Politico, a Washington D.C.-based news website, "Texas Gov. Rick Perry joked Wednesday that former Vice President Al Gore has "gone to hell" because of his advocacy for climate-change policy." Gov. Perry appeared at a campaign event for a builders' group in Dallas. The leading Republican candidate for governor had once been a Democrat and avid supporter of Al Gore, until he suddenly realized that Mr. Gore was not really telling the 'inconvenient truth' with his outrageous claims on global warming. Mr. Perry was asked about his past relationship with Mr. Gore. An attendee asked, "did you get religion? Did he get religion? What has happened since then?" Gov. Perry responded, "I certainly got religion. I think he's gone to hell." Upon hearing the remark, the room erupted with laughter and applause. After the room quieted, Perry said, "I think they agree." "Prior to his comment about Gore," Politico reports that, "Perry had been warning the group that he believes the climate change legislation Congress is considering will prove too costly to future generations." Gov. Perry contends that Obama's 'cap-and-trade' bill is "based on flawed science" and that if signed by the president "the costs to our children, to our grandchildren, are going to be staggering." He added, "that is one of the most powerful reasons, I think, that we have to stand up as people (and) as a community and tell this administration and his Congress that the direction that they're heading in is not acceptable." Gov. Rick Perry will likely be the Republican nominee for the 2010 governor's race in Texas after the March primaries. He will most likely face off against former Houston Mayor Bill White, a Democrat. Nevertheless, Gov. Rick Perry is already getting some rounds of target practice against the Democratic Party by shooting attacks against Al Gore, the world's most visible champion of the environmental movement.
