Church of Scotland Minister Claims Jesus Taught by Druids PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Mon, Nov 30, 2009, 08:49 AM

British Jesus.jpgDr. Gordon Strachan, a Church of Scotland minister, appeared in a controverial documentary which claims that Jesus visited Great Britain before his public ministry to learn scholarly subjects from pagan Druids, since supposedly, the region was at the forefront of learning about 2,000 years ago, especialy in regards to mathematics. Dr. Strachan agrees with the film's premise.

The director of the film is Ted Harrison, a former BBC religious affairs correspondent, who insists that Jeus visited England to converse with Druids when his uncle Joseph of Arimethea made a business trip to the area.

The Daily Mail of London quotes Mr. Harrison as saying that, "if somebody wanted to learn about the spirituality and thinking not just of the Jews but also the classical and Greek world, he would have to come to Britain, which was the center of learning at the time. Jesus was a young man curious to find out about all sorts of things. We know there is a huge gap in the life of Jesus between when he was born and when his ministry started."

The former BBC religion correspondent added, "he would have come to learn what was being taught about astronomy and geometry which was being taught at 'universities' run by druids at the time."

The film finds as its inspiration a poem entitled: 'Jerusalem,' by William Blake, which immortalized the idea of Jesus possibly visiting Britain in the opening lines of that poem.

Mr. Harrison believes that Jesus visited Britain in his 20s to learn from the Druids by using his earnings as a carpenter to fund the trip. To validate his so-called theory, he quotes from Blake's Jerusalem: "And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England's mountains green? And was the holy lamb of God on England's pleasant pasture seen?"

According to the Mail, "Jesus is said to have built a chapel in Glastonbury - and when the theologian St. Augustine heard of it 1,400 years ago, he wrote the Pope to tell him about it. Mr. Harrison said: 'The concrete evidence is the reference by St. Augustine that at Glastonbury there was a small building or church that was put by Jesus."
