The Washington Times reports that, "a large part of this year's $786 billion stimulus bill was devoted to green or renewable energy projects, with President Obama, Democratic legislators and their environmental allies reportedly promising that the money would be used to create an army of home weatherizers, wind-turbine factory jobs and other employment opportunities that would help put to work the nearly 8 people who have lost jobs during the recession." The president and his allies have contended that as many as 5 million jobs would be established by spending $150 billion over the next decade on new technologies such as solar and total power while retrofitting buildings and residences to improve them as more energy efficient. The Washington Times reports quotes Obama when he campaigned last year as saying that, "we know the jobs of the 21st century will be created in developing alternative energy. The question is whether these jobs will be created in America ... or overseas." Yet, the reality is that after a large chunk of spending in the stimulus bill, no more than 100,000 or so have been created, economists claim, and the prospects are for mere modest growth in alternative energy jobs for the years to come. Rajiev Dhawan, director of Economic Forecasting Center at Georgia State University, said, "this is not the spark that will put the economy out of the doldrums and place it in a lasting expansion that establishes millions of jobs. This is not the solution to the current big unemplomynet problem." According to the Washington Times, "green-energy industries other than wind and hydropower in the experimental stages and are not proven enough technologically or economically to be instrumental in putting the economy out of recession and putting millions of people to work like the internet boom of the 1990s or the housing boom of the early 2000s, he said." written by Ken Dickson , November 24, 2009 I am amazed @ the lack of comment on this subject. the green job fraud promised is just that, FRAUD! Opportunity maybe, but not in place & will have to be created over time, but not by a community organizer who has no experience in business! How can someone, who has no knowledge of conventional energy create an industry that is alternate to what he knows nothing about? That my friends is just one of the frauds of this present administration! Obama needs to get back to letting what the private sector knows best & step out of the way! He knows nothing bout either subject!

written by furrpiece , November 24, 2009 "Green jobs" are a hoax, not unlike Global Warming. Spain's own experience says it all. For every "new" job deemed by the wizards to be "green", there was a net job loss in the economy. Stated plainly, 'going green' costs jobs and hurts the economy. Obama has never had a real job. He clearly doesn't understand business, he doesn't believe in competition or Free Enterprise, and what it takes to build a manufacturing business is beyond him and most of his "advisers". (The General Motors experience should be enough proof positive that he's clueless! It's also no mistake that GM has a mandate to make green cars that, surveys say, nobody wants.) There's nothing wrong with conserving resources. Weatherizing homes and offices, driving better and more evenly, recycling items that make sense to recycle, watching thermostat settings, and other conservation measures that work are great. Almost every profitable business I've seen became so because of a solid Business Plan that projected conditions, competition, organization, intricate product or service metrics, sales and marketing plans and costs, budgets on top of budgets, and benchmarks for success (greatly simplified). Yet government wants to impose this nonsense on all of us with no business plan that proves up value or acceptance! Since government is using my tax dollars and my yet unborn great-grandchildren's prosperity to pay for this nonsense, at least show me a detailed business plan, and let ME decide if this is a good investment. President Barack Obama has been promoting 'green energy,' but it's proving to be a miracle solution to the country's monumental unemployment difficulties, and it is doing little to assist the economy emerge from its deepest recession in decades, economists claim.
