Scientists from Great Britain are examining the strain of swine flu behind a deadly Ukrainian outbreak to find out if the virus mutated. More than one million have have been infected in the nation and at least 189 people have died.

The Daily Mail of London reports that, "some doctors have likened the symptoms of those seen in many of the victims of the Spanish Flu which caused millions of deaths world-wide after the World War One. An unnamed doctor in western Ukraine told of the alarming effects of the virus."

The doctor said, "we have carried out post-mortems on two victims and found their lungs are as black as charcoal. They look like they have been burned. It's terrifying."

Poland, a neighboring country, is demanding that the EU take action in the fears of the mystery virus spreading elsewhere.

According to the Daily Mail, "Prime Minister Donald Tusk has written to European Commission President Jose Manuel Barrosso and the Swedish Prime Minister, Fredrik Reinfeldt, who holds the EU presidency."

The letter stated, "the character if this threat demands that rapid action be undertaken at the European Union level."

The governments of Russia, Slovakia, Poland Hungary and Romania have already launched health checks on Ukrainians arriving into their territory.

Slovakia officially closed two of its border crossings.

President Viktor Yushchenko of the Ukraine has called in the World Health Organization.

in an attempt to identify the virus, a team of specialists are carrying out tests in Kiev and Lviv.

Presdient Yushchenko announced, "people are dying. The epidemic is killing doctors. This is absolutely inconceivable in the 21st Century."
