"But," the Washington Times reports that, "the original Black Panther Party, which famously advocated black power and preached self-defense through confrontation in the 1960s and 1970s, is not happy with the new upstart. It has condemned the New Black Panther Party an its tactics, saying the NBPP 'stole' the party's name for its own 'misguided purposes.'" The Huey P. Newton Foundation Inc., established in 1993 and co-founded by the Black Panther leader Huey P. Newton's widow, Fredrika Newton, said in a statement that the original party was "never a group of angry young militants full of fury toward the white establishment .. but operated on the love for black people, not hatred for white people." The Washington Times quotes the statement as adding that, "as guardian of the true history of the Black Panther Party, the foundation, which includes former leading members of the party, denounces the group's exploitation of the party's name and history. Failing to find its own legitimacy in the black community, this brand would graft the party's name upon itself, which we condemn." The statement also said, "there is no New Black Panther Party." It described the NBPP as "a small band of African-Americans calling themselves the New Black Panthers." It claimed the NBPP has "no legitimate claim on the party's name" and that it "only pretends to walk in the footsteps of the party's true heroes." The denouncement by the foundation that currently operates community-based literacy, voter outreach and helath-related programs, is not the only group chalenging the NBPP. written by furrpiece , November 16, 2009 I don't know many intelligent people of any race who aren't ashamed of the so-called New Black Panther Party. This handful of misfits and racists in their sale Army-Navy Store outfits have humiliated themselves almost from coast-to-coast, using their made-up funny names do everything from intimidating black voters, to protecting Cynthia McKinney from her imaginary adversaries, to showing up at DISD Board Meetings with unloaded shotguns intending to intimidate Latinos. As well, how could anyone forget their special performances at the Duke Rape Hoax trials making fun of innocent white students falsely accused by a black stripper of rape and other imaginary crimes. A new dodge for the NBPP is providing "security" at apartment units in return for free apartments, as most are allergic to real jobs and spend their welfare checks on more entertaining pursuits than common living expenses. Were it not for their multiple offenses against society, this band of clowns would actually provide comic relief at times. But, they seem unable to exist without weapon they most frequently use against those who are unarmed, so there's nothing funny about them. Give almost any Dallas Police Officer of any race anonymity protection, and he or she can probably give you a book full of infractions related to the NBPP right here in Dallas. What is sad is that this group could actually be a force for good in the black community. But, they're all about bullying and confrontation, and that negates any good they might do. Write comment

During the November 2008 presidential election, the New Black Panther Party catapulted itself to national attention when two of its members, one brandishing a nightstick, were captured on video footage intimidating voters at a Philadelphia polling place.
