Chavez Prepares for War Against Obama PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Mon, Nov 9, 2009, 01:53 PM

Bogota Chavez.jpgPresident Hugo Chavez may have grown disapointed that President Barack Obama has not yet sent some stimulus funds to Venezuela. Hence, Chavez has ordered his military to prepare for a possible armed conflict with Colombia if the United States sends its troops to that country.

Fox News reports that, "Chavez said Venezuela could end up going to war with Colombia as tensions between them rise, and he warned that if a conflict broke out, 'it could extend throughout the whole continent.'"

Chavez told military officers during his weekly television and radio program that "the best way to avoid war is preparing for it." The nation's Marxist leader has also cited a recent deal between Washington and Bogota giving U.S. troops greater access to military bases as a threat to regional stability.

There had been no immediate response from either the Colombian or U.S. governments, but historically they have denied plans to launch a war against Venezuela and claimed the base deal is necessary to fight the war on drugs and insurgents in Colombia that is a major cocaine producer struggling with decades-old internal conflict.

According to Fox, "tensions along the Venezuela-Colombia border have been exacerbated in recent weeks by a series of shootings and slayings. Four men on motorcycles shot and killed two Venezuelan National Guard troops at a checkpoint near the border in Venezuela's Tachira state last week, prompting Chavez's government to temporarily close some border crossings."

Venezuelan authorities, last month, arrested at least 10 people in Tachira alleghing involvement in paramilitary groups. The bullet-ridden corpses of 11 men, none of them Colombian, were also discovered last month in Tachira after an abduction from a soccer field.

Prompted by violence, Venezuela deployed 15,000 soldiers to the border with Colombia on Thursday. Officials claimed the buildup was necessary to increase security along the border.

As reported by Fox, "Elsa Cardosos, a professor of international relations at the Central University of Venezuela, suggested that Chavez's heated rhetoric - coupled with the recent military deployments - are aimed at turning the public's attention away from pressing domestic problems ranging from rampant crime to electrictity and water rationing."

Somebody needs to tell Chavez that there is no reason to train troops or buy armaments.

Obama will surrender without a shot being fired if you pretend to like him, just like he did with Russia.

Now, if Chavez makes the Canadians angry, they'll kick his tail.

Chavez seems to be following the wisdom of picking your enemies just as you do your friends.

I agree, furrpiece.

BTW, have you noticed the lack of obama supporters lately on this blog. Could it be that they are seeing the light and just can tell us how right we were about mr. president.

Probably sick of arguing with people who will never change their minds.

And I didn't realize we were at war with Russia.

Jason, I think it's a fairer statement to say Russia is 'at war' with us. Either way, they certainly have an increasingly adversarial relationship with us.

Putin has even threatened us, and again maintained the right for pre-emptive nuclear launches.

Obama not only abandoned the missile defense shield Bush had already negotiated and put in operation, but he agreed to give Russia access to our most secret nuke sites, even though they did not reciprocate with us.

Obama has also unilaterally agreed to reduce the number of nuclear weapons we have, again without reciprocation from Russia.

He also abandoned the long-standing doctrine of both pre-emptive strikes and mutually assured defense policies.

If that's not "surrender", I don't know what it is.

He's an idiot, and a dangerous one at that. That's blunt, but it's accurate. However, that's certainly not a reflection on you.

While we're on the topic, it also needs to be said that Obama has placed his personal political fortunes ahead of the safety and security of our troops currently in combat.

He has telegraphed to our allies and adversaries alike dangerous temerity, uncertainty, vacillation, procrastination, and a lack of resoluteness about making decisions on more troops in Afghanistan.

That kind of nonsense gets people killed, and makes our allies very nervous about whether they can count on us when the chips are down.

Remember, Obama had a Che poster and a Cuban flag in his Senate office until he started running for President.

So, it's also not unreasonable to question where his actual loyalties lie. That is, whether he's more concerned with his international reputation than in putting America and our troops first - always, every time, and without hesitance.

Chavez wants to fight them over there so he doesnt have to fight them here, its GW playbook if theyre dumb enough to fall for it here then most certainly there.

I don’t mean to stick up for the Russians BUT lets say that the Russians came to mexico and setup shop there, started military exercises with them on land sea and air, started to trade and make demands of the US such as don’t come into Mexican airspace or waters. And now lets say they did that with Canada and Venezuela, I think the US would have the same reaction that Russia did when we did this to the countries that surround them, we provoke them then we wonder why they would act so belligerent toward us the good freedom loving Americans.
Hey fur I wonder if you said the same thing when W procrastinated in sending more troops for the last 4 years or when he FIRED Gen Shinseki and Casey for asking for more troops or when his homeland security in 2008 did not keep investigating hasasn what a bunch of right wing clowns. There are 3000 dead Americans on American soil on W’s watch.
