Malaysia Govt' Confiscates 10,000 "Allah Bibles" PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Thu, Nov 5, 2009, 06:15 PM

Allah Bibles.jpgThe government of Malaysia has refused to release 10,000 Bibles that it seized since they contained the word 'Allah' to refer to God.

The BBC News reports that, "the government, which is dominated by Muslim Malays, claims that the word 'Allah' is Islamic and that its use in Bibles could upset Muslims."

The Roman Catholic Church has been challenging the ban in court.

In Malaysia, where about two-thirds of the population is Muslim, religion has become highly sensitive. Religious minorities are accusing the government of undermining their rights.

The Malaysian government has a history of impounding Bibles, intercepting 5,000 in March as they were imported from Indonesia.

Church officials claim that even though the word 'Allah' originated in arabic, Malays have used it for centuries to refer generally to God, and before Islam was founded, Arabic-speaking Christians used the word.

According to the BBC News, "the Christian Federation of Malaysia said the religious freedom guaranteed by the Malaysian Constitution was meaningless if people were denied Bibles which used their own language."

Fort Hood...9/11 act II.

Muslims killing Americans. Wake up America.

Perhaps, we should view the Ft. Hood rampage as a tragic event rather than a political or religious statement at this time. It is a time to mourn the deaths of the innocent victims.

"Allah," by the way, is the word Christians throughout the Middle East address God.

Mr. Marvelous,

We Catholics acknowledge Islam as a common religion that worships our common, "Old Lord." This post has clearly bigoted anti-Islamic implications that are clearly not Christian.

It is a tragic event and my thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those that were killed. Very sad situation.

President Obama has failed to keep our soldiers safe in our own country.

At first blush, it appears the shooting at Ft. Hood was part hate crime, part terrorism, and part twisted revenge.

But, it's safe to say this will be one of the most investigated crimes in military history, so I expect we'll have all the answers we want.

I also agree with Byron that we should remember the victims and their families in our prayers.

That said, I am not happy that the ultimate head of the FBI, Eric Holder, is a terrorist sympathizer; just another example of Obama's horrible judgment in people.

"President Obama has failed to keep our soldiers safe in our own country."?

13 soldiers at Ft Hood versus 125 soldiers who died at the Pentagon on 9/11.

Byron, did you blame Bush for "failing to keep our soldiers safe in our own country."?

Austin,
Your President campaigned on "Change." I assumed that meant he could do anything. Your president continues to "blame Bush" for everything that happens so I thought I would get a jump and blame him before he had a chance to blame Bush for the killings at Ft. Hood.

It is sad that the illustrious one hasn't visited Ft. Hood. Seems since he is commander in chief that he would have been on Air Force One before the shooting had stopped to comfort the wounded and their families. But no, he has to stay in Washington to try and strong arm the democrats that have finally figured out that he is ruining this country.

How about that 10% unemployment? Didn't candidate obama promise it would not go above 8%.

I reinterate, President Bush is no longer in office. How long are you going to defend the current president for his dumb actions? Seems many have abandoned him..you might want to jump on the wagon with the rest of America.

You fault Obama for not visiting Ft Hood, and would no doubt fault him for "staging a photo op" if he DID visit Ft Hood. The same way he was blasted for ignoring the troops killed on his watch and then blasted for paying respect to them at Dover AFB.

There is no pleasing you people, and Obama is wise not to try.
